Born in Barcelona, she was raised by a pilot and filmmaker who fed her curiosity for different mediums of visual expression from a young age. After receiving her degree in War Studies from King’s College London, she worked for several photographers in London before moving to Paris to study History of Art at L’École du Louvre.
Pairing her dedication to human rights and photography, she began working with international NGOs doing research field work in the areas of migration, displacement, human trafficking and education in South East Asia. Her early photographic work with the displaced Rohingya minority of Burma was published internationally and received honorable mentions by Magnum Photos & Oxfam Grant as well as the UNICEF Picture of the Year Awards. In 2015, Marta was invited to lecture and exhibit her work at the University of Chicago.
She continues to develop a personal body of work with a fine art approach focused on questions of belonging and identity.
